Blow-Fill-Seal provides several transportation advantages over traditional glass vials.
First, filled BFS containers are more resistant to breakage than glass vials at non-frozen temperatures. This is because a BFS container is made of plastic resin, not glass, which is inherently brittle.
Second, since BFS containers are made from pharmaceutical-grade resin, they do not run the risk of having glass flakes enter the drug product during transportation.
BFS containers also weigh less than unit-dose glass vials and do not have additional components such as plungers, stoppers or crimps that need to be transported in for assembly.
And lastly, unit-dose BFS containers can be packaged as efficiently in the cold chain as unit-dose glass vials or prefilled syringes.
